Relebohile Mofokeng Shines in Pirates’ 2-1 Victory

Midfielder Relebohile Mofokeng was the star of the show after helping Orlando Pirates secure a 2-1 Betway Premiership win over reigning Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, on Sunday, 16 March.

Playing at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, Gauteng, Sundowns kept Pirates on their toes by maintaining 71% possession of the ball throughout the match. However, this did not stop the Buccaneers from making a terrific start.

Mofokeng fired the ball into the bottom-left corner of the net in the fourth minute, but the 20-year-old midfielder was not done yet; merely one minute later, he followed up with another goal, thus giving his team a 2-0 lead.

Sundowns managed to keep the Bucs at bay for the rest of the game, plus they scored a goal of their own in the 66th minute. Nevertheless, their efforts were in vain, for the Soweto giants went on to attain a 2-1 victory over the PSL champions.

As a result, the gap between the two clubs on the PSL table has been reduced to 15 points: Mamelodi Sundowns remain at the top with 58 points, while Orlando Pirates are right behind them with 43 points.
